6, 6, 6, 6, 4, 4... Sarfaraz Khan’s explosive batting in the Mumbai T20 League left the opposition reeling as he smashed a quickfire 62 runs.

The excitement of IPL 2026 has concluded, and Team India has returned to the field. However, India's domestic season has not yet officially begun; in the interim, various states are organizing their own T20 leagues. The new season of the Mumbai T20 League, held under the aegis of the Mumbai Cricket Association, kicked off on June 1st.

Several star Indian players—who recently featured in the IPL but missed out on selection for Team India's squads—are participating in this league. Sarfaraz Khan, associated with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), is also playing in the Mumbai T20 League, and he recently delivered a blistering innings that has become the talk of the town. While he had previously played a few short, aggressive knocks (including a half-century) for CSK, he has now produced a substantial, high-impact innings.

Sarfaraz Khan plays for the Aakash Tigers MWS team in the Mumbai T20 League. On June 5th, his team faced the North Mumbai Panthers. Batting first, the North Mumbai team set a target of 195 runs. Sarfaraz provided an explosive start to the chase, wreaking havoc during the powerplay with a staggering strike rate of 295.24.

Sarfaraz Khan smashed 62 runs off just 21 balls. His innings featured eight fours and four towering sixes. He displayed an aggressive intent right from the start and spared no bowler; consequently, the opposition bowlers were left in disarray as long as he remained at the crease. Akash Tigers Lose Despite Sarfaraz Khan's Explosive Innings

After losing the toss and batting first, North Mumbai Panthers scored 194 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs. Ayush Vartak set the tone with his batting, playing an unbeaten knock of 83 runs off 41 balls at a strike rate of 202.44, featuring three fours and seven sixes. Anish Chaudhary also contributed with an innings of 44 runs. However, captain Ajinkya Rahane failed to fire, managing only 15 runs off 12 balls.

In reply, Akash Tigers got off to a blazing start thanks to opener Sarfaraz Khan, who scored 77 runs before getting out on the final ball of the powerplay. It appeared that Akash Tigers would easily chase down the remaining runs for a victory; however, the other batsmen failed to deliver, and the team ultimately finished at 172 for 9 after playing out their full quota of overs. Consequently, they suffered a 22-run defeat—their second loss in three matches.

Sarfaraz Khan's team, Akash Tigers MWS, has played three matches in the Mumbai T20 League so far, though he has personally participated in only two of them. He has scored a total of 90 runs during this period; 62 of these came against North Mumbai Panthers, while the remaining 28 were scored in the match against Maratha Royals. Akash Tigers had suffered a defeat in the Super Over during that particular encounter.
